The Best Christmas Swimming Pool Games For Children
Children simply love the Christmas holidays, lots of presents, barbeques galore and nearly six weeks off school.
Why not keep them entertained over the festive season with some Christmas themed pool games which are sure to provide endless fun? If you’re organising the games, why not dress up in a Christmas costume at the side of the pool to really get into the festive spirit?
Reindeer Race
Father Christmas wouldn’t be able to travel anywhere to drop off his presents without the help of his reindeers.
For this game you’ll need swim noodles, these are long cylindrical pieces of foam that are hollow in the centre and float in the water and plastic Frisbees.
The noodles are the reindeers and the Frisbees the presents. Ask the children to select their favourite reindeer. Choose from Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen. Children need to balance their Frisbee on top of their head while galloping across to the other side. How do they gallop? They sit on the noodle with their legs either side and use their hands and feet to paddle. The Frisbee mustn’t fall off their head and if it does they must pick it up immediately.
Stuff The Stocking
This is a game which encourages pool diving. Throw in some silver coins while the children aren’t looking and check they sink and drop to the bottom. Then give them a stocking – which can be some old pantyhose with the legs cut off. Set your time and the children have to collect as many silver coins as possible. The winner is the one who has the most amount of money in their stocking. Depending on their age, you may need to help to add up their loot.
Reindeer’s Nose
All you need for this is some table tennis balls which float in the water. The idea is for the youngsters push the table tennis balls across the water by using their nose. They’re not allowed to touch it with their hand. Depending on the age of the children, they can either walk across or swim across with the tennis ball in front.
What’s The Time Father Christmas?
This is a twist on a classic children’s game. Instead of ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf?’ it’s ‘What’s the day Father Christmas? One child, who is Father Christmas, has their back against the other swimmers with their eyes shut. The children ask the question and have to take a certain number of steps forward depending on the amount of days Father Christmas calls out such as ‘Twelve days until Christmas’ etc. When he calls Christmas Day, the youngsters have to scurry back to the side of the pool to escape Father Christmas. If they’re tagged by him, they have to sit out for the rest of the game.
Christmas only comes once a year and youngsters are always awe-struck by the magic of the festive season so this year make it one they’ll truly remember.
